The center, originally established in 1982 as the International Islamic University, embarked on its educational journey and later merged with the Dehkhoda Higher Education Complex in 1991. This merger, initiated by the then Minister of Science, led to its renaming as the Imam Khomeini University.
Currently, the university serves a community of 7,930 students and employs 516 professors and 320 faculty members. It has made significant academic contributions, with 8,572 articles published in domestic journals and conferences, including 3,099 journal articles and 5,473 conference papers. Additionally, 3,190 articles from the university have received international accreditation. The university also publishes 20 specialized journals.
The university has hosted 21 conferences and is one of the five active state universities in international affairs. It has signed 200 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with 47 countries and more than 50 practical MoUs since 1376, maintaining continuous scientific contact with other prestigious universities worldwide.

The university complex offers a variety of accommodation options:
- **Dormitories**: The complex houses 10 dormitories in total. Five of these are dedicated to male students, four to female students, and one is specifically allocated for married students. Additionally, there is a dormitory that can accommodate up to 350 students.
- **Library**: The University Central Library, spanning an area of 4062 square meters, is situated in the western part of the University Mosque, facing the central hall. It boasts a collection of over 105,000 books in Persian, Arabic, and Latin languages.
These facilities aim to provide a conducive environment for learning and personal growth.
The initial registration fee for students at the university is $50. An annual fee of $50 is also required. For those interested in the Persian language course, which caters to all levels from beginner to advanced, the fee is $300.
