The University of Gendishapur, established in the 4th or 5th century AD, was a renowned scientific center in various disciplines for six centuries, particularly during the reign of Khosrow Anoushiravan. The exact location of the ancient city of Jandishapur University in Iran is uncertain, but according to Ahmad Ughdari, it is believed to be situated between the cities of Shushtar, Shush, and Dezful.
Shahabad village, located 18 km southeast of Dezful and 50 km northwest of Shushtar, is among the potential locations of the university and the ancient city of Gandishapur. The city of Shushtar was constructed under the orders of Shapur I. A university, initially named Gandishapur, was inaugurated in Ahvaz on Sunday, Mehr 2, 1334, and was later renamed Gundishapur.
The university, built near the Karun River on flat land adjacent to the Tropical Vegetation Garden, boasts a unique architecture. This is attributed to its design and construction by notable architects such as Kamran Diba and Andre Godard.
