In 1344, under the reign of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the university was known as the Ariamshahr University of Technology. However, following the 1979 revolution, it was renamed Sharif University of Technology in honor of its graduate, Majid Sharif Waqfi. The university currently accommodates 10,242 students and employs 480 lecturers. Notably, it has published 16,198 papers, with 2,637 in journals and 13,561 in conference papers, as well as 26,999 internationally-authored articles. Additionally, the university owns and publishes six professional magazines and has organized 111 conferences.

The girls' dormitories of Tarasht 2 and Shahid Shokradeh, along with the boys' dormitories of Tarasht 3, Shahid Ahmadi Roshan, Masli Nejad, Shahid Vazavai, and Shahid Heydartash, offer a variety of accommodations. The girls' dormitories provide four, six, and eight-person suites, while the boys' dormitories offer four and six-person rooms. Students have access to a range of facilities including reading rooms, gyms, supermarkets, playgrounds, green spaces, hairdressers, tailors, and laundry services. The dormitories also host various religious, cultural, and sports programs. A shuttle service operates between the university and the dormitories, ensuring students can commute easily. Meals are distributed in the dormitory on Thursdays and at night, but they must be booked in advance. Students can collect their meals from the kitchen at the designated times. These amenities contribute to a comfortable and convenient living environment for the students.

The initial registration fee for students at the university is $50. An annual fee of $50 is also required. For those interested in the Persian language course, which caters to all levels from beginner to advanced, the fee is $300.
