The "School of Commerce", the foundational unit of the university, was established in 1337. Following the Cultural Revolution and the amalgamation of various colleges that had been gradually established prior to the Islamic revolution, Allameh Tabatabai University was founded in 1363. Today, it stands as the country's largest specialized humanities university. Just as Sharif University is recognized as the premier specialized university in engineering technology and Tehran University is renowned as the best comprehensive university in the country, Allameh Tabatabaei University also holds a distinguished position as one of the country's top universities, according to research and rankings.
