Established in 1963, Kurdistan University is an independent institution located in Tehran. It was founded by Dr. Fereydun Motamed Vaziri, a distinguished politician and professor, who also founded Razi University of Kermanshah. Today, Kurdistan University is recognized as one of the leading young universities, both nationally and internationally.

Kurdistan University has achieved several notable accomplishments: - It was selected as a top university by the Center for International Cooperation Studies. - A faculty member received a National Research Grant from the Swiss Science Foundation. - An agreement was made for scientific, research, and executive cooperation between the Entrepreneurship Development Management, Growth, and Innovation Centers and Bisotun Chemical Industry Co. - Four faculty members were included in the list of top-ranked Iranian researchers. - The university introduced successful experiments and models for developing cooperation with society and industry. - It was listed among the world's top one percent universities in 2022 and among the top universities in Asia. - Dr. Hassan Biorani became a member of the National Sample Board and had a successful presence in the international ranking system of universities. - Students were honored in the first round of the 27th Iranian Scientific Olympiad in 1401. - A scientific and research cooperation agreement was made with Ljubljana University of Slovenia. - The university was ranked 400–301 in the natural sciences and 500–401 in the life sciences area in the Shanghai 2022 rankings. - It should be noted that Kurdistan University was also ranked 400–301 in the Shanghai Thematic Ranking of 2021 in the Biological Sciences and Agricultural Sciences.

The university provides supplementary treatment insurance for faculty and staff members, which includes the collection of documents and their delivery to university colleagues. The university also organizes pilgrimage camps and manages all university-related insurance, such as fire, flood, earthquake, and various liability insurances for laboratories, sports facilities, student events, and more. Various sports competitions are held on different occasions, with sports accident insurance provided. The university also facilitates the use of accommodation centers, such as campuses throughout the country. Efforts are made to provide new amenities for colleagues, including the option to issue car insurance (body, third party) in installments, introductions to partners for the use of other facilities, and life insurance and group events for employees and faculty members. The student dormitory at Kurdistan University consists of 10 dormitories for male students and 12 for female students, accommodating over 6,000 students in total. All international students reside in these student dormitories. The Department of Dormitory Affairs, a unit of student affairs, oversees all student dormitories, supervises daily dormitory activities, implements dormitory rules and regulations, works to improve the quality and quantity of dormitory development, provides dormitories for non-native applicant students, supervises dormitory property and buildings, and handles other related affairs. The Central Library, which started in 1354 with less than 1,000 books in a 12 square meter space and one staff member, has grown over time. The School of Literature and Humanities offered services with a total of 60,000 copies of Persian, Arabic, Latin, and other information sources. With the completion of the Central Library Project of Kurdistan University in February 1387, operations were moved to the new library. The library now serves about 8,000 members in a new building with a collection of more than 126,000 copies of Persian, Arabic, Kurdish, and Latin printed resources, as well as electronic resources.

At the University of Kurdistan, non-Iranian students are required to pay an initial service fee of \$75 to commence their enrollment process. In addition, the university offers dormitory services at a rate of \$350 per semester. There is also an annual mandatory fee of \$50. Furthermore, the university provides a Persian language course, catering to all levels from beginner to advanced, at a cost of \$300.
