Established in 1366, Maragheh University is a prestigious institution located in the eastern part of Maragheh city. Affiliated with the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, it welcomes a new cohort of students each year. The university boasts a vibrant academic community of 3,700 students, 115 professors, and 134 faculty members.
Initially, the university started with a single major program. However, over time, it expanded its academic disciplines and evolved into a full-fledged college. Its continuous development and progress have earned it a commendable scientific reputation among Iranian universities.
Maragheh University has made significant scholarly contributions, with 1,749 articles published in domestic journals and conferences, which include 422 journal articles and 1,327 conference papers. Additionally, it has published 1,870 papers in internationally recognized journals. The university also publishes two specialized journals, further cementing its role in advancing knowledge in various fields.

Maragheh University has achieved numerous accolades:
- Dr. Mehdi Esrafii, a member of the Scientific Board of the Iranian Chemical Group, was recognized as the country's leading chemist by the Iranian Chemical Society. He also made it to the list of the top 1% of Iranian scientists based on the ESI.
- Eight faculty members of Maragheh University were placed in the top 2% of the world's scientists, according to Scopus.
- Researchers from Maragheh University were selected as Provincial Top Researchers.
- The university won the first position for student publications in the category of cultural articles, the second rank for humanities articles in the selected works section, and the sixth title among universities of the Ministry of Science. It also secured the eleventh title among universities of the country with five nominations for the prize in the Student Publications Festival of the National Universities of Iran.
- The university received honors from the Scientific Associations in the eleventh round of the National Tournament of Heat Treatment, securing the first place.
The Central Library at Maragheh University, established in 1366, has been a cornerstone of the university's research and education efforts. The library moved to a new building in 1390, and since then, it has continued to serve the academic community with the expertise of its librarians and staff.
As for accommodation, Maragheh University houses approximately 1,300 students from various cities in its six dormitories, providing separate facilities for male and female students. These dormitories offer a comfortable living environment for students during their academic journey at the university.
The initial registration fee for students at the university is $50. An annual fee of $50 is also required. For those interested in the Persian language course, which caters to all levels from beginner to advanced, the fee is $300.
